How To Succeed On The Pro Comedy Circuit – WORKSHOP

Are you a comedian wanting to make the next step onto the professional comedy circuit? If so, you are just one of a LOT of acts all vying for the same spots at the same clubs… This workshop with Getaway Comedy owner, founder of the £10,001 British Comedian of the Year competition and professional comedian Andy Stedman is designed to give you the best possible edge in a crowded market. Andy has read thousands of emails and watched thousands of videos from acts applying for gigs, he books over 350 shows a year and understands both sides of the coin being a pro act and a promoter.

This will be the 6th time Andy has run this workshop, and many of the acts who have attended are now doing paid spots at Andy’s and other pro nights around the UK (see testimonials at end). There will be limited space so everyone present receives due care and attention!

At the workshop you will cover the following areas:

HOW TO GET SPOTS ON PRO GIGS (and then get progression)

• We’ll discuss what bookers and promoters are generally looking for (or not looking for!)
• We’ll look at your email (Andy will ask for this in advance). Is to too long or short, what do you put as the email subject, how are you selling yourself in the email itself, what time/day do you usually send it?
• Andy will watch the video you include in your email and give honest and constructive feedback on it, no bullsh*t.
• How do you know what spot to apply for?
• When and how should you ask for progression if it has gone well?
• Common errors that can stop you from getting booked.

AT THE GIG/ETIQUETTE

• You’ve been booked but that’s just the start. We’ll discuss do’s and don’ts of the Green Room, and how to give the best impression of youself at the gig.
• We’ll have a look at travel, arrival times, set lengths, self-awareness, staying until the end, getting to know other acts and much more…

SOCIAL MEDIA/PERSONA

• How do you put yourself forward on your socials and how this might affect your career.
• Are you utilising Instagram/TikTok etc properly?

THE BUSINESS OF COMEDY

• You are not just a comedian you are a business (whether you like it or not! We’ll discuss fees, strategies, burnout, writing, agents, competitions and more…

Q&A

• You can ask as many questions as you like about anythign comedy related in the Q&A at the end!
